The Wedding Cake by Isabella May – Blog Tour

Thank you to Rachel and Rachel’s Random Resources for organising this tour and to Isabella May for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

The Wedding Cake

One summer in Spain.

One accidentally double-booked eight-tier wedding cake that needs to put in a same day appearance at a rustic countryside finca AND a beachside villa.

Two brides.

Two grooms.

Hundreds of hungry guests.

Freya Ashcroft, owner and culinary whizz at Marbella’s five star bakery, is going to need a miracle to ‘save the date’. If only that was her sole dilemma – as luck wouldn’t have it, she’s also fallen head over heels in love with one of the aforementioned male clients…

My Thoughts

Oh how wonderfully yummy this book is.  I adore all of Isabelle’s novels that I have read so far however I think this may be my absolute favourite.  It’s just absolutely adorable and who doesn’t love weddings, Spain, cake and adorable (and a few crazy) characters?

If you are aware of Isabella’s books you’ll know there is always a food theme – mainly desserts and this time is no exception.  Freya makes the most amazing and delicious wedding cakes in Marbella (and also well out of the budgets of mere mortals like myself).  The description of these (aesthetics and taste) are simply divine and my mouth was watering every time someone took a bit.

Freya is a gorgeous character and I loved her journey into a more confident and ‘free’ person.  She was so kind and thoughtful towards everyone and it was so frustrating to see her taken advantage of sometimes.  I loved how her colleagues protected her and looked out for her – even when she wasn’t willing to do it for herself.

Isabelle always creates secondary characters that really create such a realistic feel to the setting and plot.  They bring everything to life and add so much into the story.  I felt as though I was part of these people’s lives and I wanted to be friends with them (some of them). I loved that Alice and River (from The Cocktail Bar and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bar) appeared and enjoyed seeing them get their happy ending.  Of course, Hayley appearing is always a treat.  I also loved Hannah, Tim, Tim’s mates and Ricky too and I would love to see further books following these guys.

The setting of Marbella and surrounding areas plus amazing villas is perfect for a destination wedding and I found myself desperately wanting to join them.

This is such a delightful novel and is perfect for escaping with for a few hours.  It has totally got me in the holiday mood just before I go.

Author Bio – Isabella May

Isabella May lives in (mostly) sunny Andalusia, Spain with her husband, daughter and son, creatively inspired by the mountains and the sea. She grew up in Somerset on Glastonbury’s ley lines and loves to feature her quirky English hometown in her stories.

After a degree in Modern Languages and European Studies at UWE, Bristol (and a year working abroad in Bordeaux and Stuttgart), Isabella bagged an extremely jammy and fascinating job in children’s publishing… selling foreign rights for novelty, board, pop-up and non-fiction books all over the world; in every language from Icelandic to Korean, Bahasa Indonesian to Papiamento!

All of which has fuelled her curiosity and love of international food and travel – both feature extensively in her romcoms.

Isabella is also a Level 4 Pranic Healer and a stillbirth mum.
