The Little Theatre on Halfpenny Lane by Clodagh Murphy – Blog Tour

Thank you to Rachel at https://www.rachelsrandomresources.com/ for organising this tour and to Clodagh Murphy for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Synopsis

Aoife and her sisters know exactly what to do when they inherit their Great-aunt Detta’s theatre on Halfpenny Lane:

  • Restore the dilapidated building to its former glory.
  • Perform together on its stage to packed houses and rapturous applause.
  • Live happily ever after.

But they didn’t count on Detta leaving a share in the theatre to her godson, Jonathan. Now they’ll have to persuade him to buy into their vision of stardust and magic – or find the money to buy him out.

As they fight to save the theatre, Aoife also battles her growing feelings for Jonathan. Because she can’t let herself fall for the man who’s about to bring the curtain down on their dreams.

My Thoughts

The Little Theatre on Halfpenny Lane is such a sweet book with a little bit of romance, family, and a whole lot of warm hug in a book.

I adored this novel.  The characters and setting were just perfection and I loved getting to know everyone and seeing their characters develop.  I’d love to read a book based on each of the other sisters but also following on from this story – that would be awesome.

As a member of a theatre group, I found the actual theatre so exciting.  I could smell the atmosphere as they rummaged through the items backstage and took in the old theatre.  It was a character in its own right and it made me so sad every time I felt they may not get to restore it.  I also a little taste of Dublin but not the usual Dublin we see in films and books – more like everyday life there.

Aoife is such a sweet character but I did find her a little frustrating at times – which makes her very human, real and relatable. The sisters were much more carefree and light-hearted and I wanted a little bit of this for Aoife too.  Of course, Jonathan was a sweetie from the beginning and I couldn’t help but love him straight away.

This is such a cute and lovely read with gorgeous characters and I highly recommend it.
