Thank you to Rachel and Rachel’s Random Resources for organising this tour and to Isabella May for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Willow has opened a custard tart cafe at the end of a popular English seaside pier. Her unique and magical spin on the Portuguese pastel de nata has customers queuing outside the door to taste them.
Tiago’s grandparents are purveyors of The Real Deal: authentic custard tarts made in the Algarve region of Portugal, where his family have been lovingly baking them for centuries. When he moves to England for a new job and chances upon Willow’s wondrous wares, he is out for war. At least that’s his intention. But when serendipity brings Willow and Tiago back together at the departures desk in Bristol airport – destination Faro – outrage isn’t the only spark that flies…
Weston-super-Mare and Portugal are about to collide!

Ah Isabella’s books are like a little ray of sunshine to read and their wonderful characters, settings and food related plots are mouth-wateringly good. Pure escapism!
Willow is a great character and I love her complete sense of self and confidence. She has a unique style and is such a gorgeous, kind woman. I adored how she took a chance on an unusual business idea and I was willing it to pay off and be successful. I would love to be friends with Willow. I enjoyed her different relationships with her sisters too and other members of the community and café.
I took a really dislike to Tiago on their first meeting. He was just so rude and bad tempered, and I really wanted Willow to make him work harder for her affections, but I guess you can’t help it when sparks fly. I tried to stay angry at him, but I must admit I warmed in spite of myself.
The Custard Tart Café is a genius idea and I’d probably spend a lot of time there if it was close to me. The flavours of tarts described are so tempting and delicious that I could almost taste them.
From The Algarve to Weston-Super-Mare, the setting of the book adds a lot of atmosphere and I enjoyed visiting both places as I have never personally been to either.
I really enjoyed escaping with Willow and it really took me away from real life for a while. Highly recommended for some delicious, yummy time away from your woes and troubles.
