Red Velvet (Blackwood Cellars #2) by Carla Luna – Blog Tour

Thank you to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for organising this tour and to Carla Luna for a copy of this novel in exchange for a honest and unbiased review.

Faking it has never been so much fun…

In her ultra-competitive family, April Beckett is used to taking last place. For years, she’s put up with jabs about her modest job and her pathetic love life. Especially after she tried to impress her older sisters with a fake boyfriend in college and failed miserably. But now she has a smoking-hot date for her brother’s wedding, guaranteed to wow them.

Until he bails. Cue total desperation.

Without April’s friendship, Brody Blackwood wouldn’t have survived his last breakup. So, if she needs a plus-one for a family wedding, he’s all in. Even if it means pretending to be her boyfriend. And committing to six days of activities at a wooded resort in Wisconsin. But how hard could a relaxing getaway with your best friend be?

Too bad there’s a grueling 10K race and a cutthroat trivia night to endure. Not to mention a massive secret to protect. But will the biggest secret of all turn out to be that this fake relationship feels more real than April or Brody ever imagined?

My Thoughts

Blackwood Cellars is a linked series but each books works well as a standalone.  After reading book 2 first I am definitely going to go and read books one as this was such a fun story to read.  Friends to lovers is one of my favourite romance tropes and add in some hilarious family antics and I’m hooked.

Brody and April are best friends and have helped each other through some hard times so when April’s date for a family wedding bails, Brody is more than happy to step in.  What he didn’t account for was the competitive and physically active nature of April’s family and some feelings towards his best friends.

Brody and April are just delightful characters and it’s impossible not to fall in love with them and their relationship as it develops.  I didn’t want their story to end I was so invested.  Their chemistry is electric and I love the steamy moments as well as the flirty fun.  I enjoyed the family activities and how these added some humorous situations into the mix and kept things very light and fun.

I’ve never read a book set in Wisconsin and I’ve never visited (yet) but Carla Luna really brings the setting alive. It is set in a beautiful autumnal backdrop which is a perfect reading setting for this time of year.  It just seems a perfect place.

This is a gorgeous and amusing romance novel and perfect escapism for this weekend.
