Dead Secret (DC Maggie Jamieson Book 4) by Noelle Holten – Blog Tour

Thank you to Sarah Hardy from @BOTBSPublicity for organising this tour and to Noelle Holten, One More Chapter and NetGalley for a copy of this novel in exchange for a honest and unbiased review.

Synopsis

‘Enthralling from the first page to the last. Devoured in one sitting. Noelle Holten has become one of my must-read authors’ Angela Marsons, bestselling author of the Detective Kim Stone series

Psychopaths can take root in the unlikeliest soil…

DC Maggie Jamieson crosses paths once again with Probation Officer Lucy Sherwood when a domestic violence survivor stumbles into her new refuge, unable to speak, desperate for help.

Then another case hits Maggie’s desk. A young man has been murdered, and a curious constellation of black dots has been inked onto his cheek.

That’s when DCI Hastings goes missing and Maggie uncovers a shocking connection that turns the case on its head.

Every family may hide secrets, but not every family buries them…

My Thoughts

If you follow my blog regularly you may know how I much I loved the other books in the Maggie Jamieson series: Dead Inside, Dead Wrong and Dead Perfect and book 4 is yet another superb addition to the series.

As usual, the novels do work as stand alones however there are links between each one and the character development is superb so you would be missing a treat if you didn’t start at the beginning.

Holten has this knack for crawling inside the heads of depraved criminals and then putting their darkest thoughts on display for us to all see.  She goes to the places many find to uncomfortable to be and I love the insight we get into her characters.  Dead Secret is no exception as we once again enter the dark world killers.

There are several story lines running in this novel. Lucy is opening her shelter for abused women, Kate is not around and DCI Hastings has disappeared.

The plot isn’t rushed through or racy and there is a balance between solving the case and Maggie’s personal life which I really enjoy.

The plot builds to an explosive finish but there is tension all the way through.

An excellent instalment of a brilliant series.
