Summer Kisses at Mermaid Point by Sarah Bennett – Blog Tour

Thank to Sarah Bennett, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for a copy of this book in return for an honest review and Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for organising this blog tour.

‘Delightfully romantic and touching.’ Phillipa Ashley

Laurie Morgan runs a café in the small seaside community of Mermaids Point, named after the beauties rumoured to live in the waters a few miles off the top of the point. When a hazy image is posted online of what appears to be a mermaid, the café and the village are soon full to bursting with curious sightseers.

The most eye-catching of the new arrivals is handsome author, Jake Smith, who has rented a cottage for the summer while he works on his new book. Or so he says. In fact, he is a journalist, burned out and disillusioned with life, whose editor has sent him on a crack-pot hunt for mermaids…

Jake quickly finds himself drawn to village life, and to the gorgeous woman who runs the local café. But he soon suspects there’s trouble lurking beneath the idyllic façade, and when it looks like Laurie’s family might be involved, Jake faces a difficult choice. Pursue the truth, or protect the woman he’s beginning to fall in love with…

Warm, escapist, feel-good and altogether brilliant story-telling from bestselling author Sarah Bennett. Perfect for all fans of Trisha Ashley and Milly Johnson.

My Thoughts

I adore Sarah Bennett and her novels and I was so excited when I heard there was a new series coming out as it’s been a while.  I was not disappointed and actually, this may be my favourite Sarah Bennett series yet!

I seem to spend most of my days with a fuzzy head, feeling overwhelmed with work and trying to fit in a bot of reading where I can.  Summer Kisses was a perfect remedy to this.  As I read, I almost instantly felt uplifted and invested in the characters and the community of Mermaids Point and devoured the whole book in a few sittings.  It has a wonderfully summery vibe to it and will give you that warm and fuzzy glow to chase away any blues or grey clouds hovering about.

I adored the Morgen family and their interactions are precious – definitely family and relationship goals. Their bond and support for each other shines through the entire story and I really want to be part of that and their fierce loyalty for their home is admirable too.

The novel is narrated by both Laurie and Jake and I enjoyed seeing things from both their perspectives.  It helped me to understand, experience and feel with each character as individuals.  Laurie is a Morgen and has lived in Mermaids Point all her life.  She runs the local café and bakes the most amazing sounding sweet treats.  Jake is a write on a part-holiday after covering a draining and emotional story but also part research regarding the sighting of a mermaid at Mermaids Point.  Both characters are delightful and so sweet and I loved the chemistry between them from the first time Jake set foot in Laurie’s café.  They both have things they are hiding and I loved the gentle tension of this hanging over their blossoming friendship/developing relationship.

Mermaids Point is a quaint setting and perfect for a romance novel.  It is reminiscent of low-key seaside places of the UK where the tradition and peace is still preserved.  I really want to visit.

A heart-warming and uplifting read that really lifts the spirits.  I cannot wait for a return visit to Mermaids Point as it already feels like a familiar second home to me.  Highly recommended for lovers of romance.
