‘Beautifully written, comforting and utterly uplifting, Lucy Coleman’s stories are the perfect tonic when life is a little grey.’ Holly Martin

Seren Maddison left behind a rainy Britain to follow her dreams and live and work in Lisbon. The vibrancy, the beautiful scenery and the sunshine, made her fall in love and she knew, instantly, that it would be her forever home.

International artist Reid Henderson has homes in Lisbon and London. Following his painful divorce, his dream is to turn his luxurious home into an art school and gallery.

When Seren and Reid first meet there is an instant attraction, but they are both people who have been hurt, and each have dreams that are so far apart, they aren’t even on the same page.

Can they enjoy one summer of happiness together, as life bestows a gift of memories to cherish for the rest of their lives? Or is their destiny to chart a path into the future, in a home where dreams can come true?

Seren and Reid may be about to discover that love is as much about what you are prepared to give up, as what you are prepared to keep hold of.

Let Lucy Coleman transport you away to sun-drenched Portugal where true love really can conquer all, and home is where the heart is. Perfect for all fans of Trisha Ashley, Holly Martin and Sue Moorcroft.

My Thoughts

I’ve never been to Portugal and having missed out on a holiday in the sun this year (like most people), I became completely engrossed in my visit to Almada.  It didn’t matter that I had never been as Lucy completely took me there through her vivid and stunning descriptions.  I became completely immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of Almada through her wonderful illustrations with words.

The narrative gently leads the reader into the plot.  It isn’t rushed or fast paced but allows the reader to unwrap and digest each new event of piece of information and slowly savour and digest every morsel of it.  I loved learning about Seren and her past – which explains her reasons for taking such a big step.  Starting afresh is a daunting thing but to so it in a different country and navigate cultural differences too is an immense experience and learning curve.  I loved joining Seren on this journey to fulfil her dreams.

The peek into the organisation of an art exhibition was fascinating and insightful.  I have zero artistic ability, so I found the physical organisation plus the descriptions of the artwork really interesting. The romantic plot also added some spark and dram into the plot too but for me, this is about Seren’s journey to find herself and make her own mark on the world.

A delightful contemporary story with a romantic aspect set in a wonderful location.  Perfect to get lost in and bring a little sunshine into your life.
