Ever wondered what it’s like to be a juror in a high-profile celebrity trial?
Well… now you don’t have to.
Step inside the jury room to deliberate one of the most talked-about court cases of the decade.
…all three men got her drunk, led her to a hotel room and took advantage of her.
…she was a willing participant and consented to sex with each of them.
After five-weeks of listening to all of the evidence and all of the arguments in a celebrity rape trial that has gripped an entire nation, the jury sit down to begin their deliberations.
But they don’t know who to believe…
Wow! This books just grabs you the minute you open it and takes on a journey full of self-reflection and mind-boggling turmoil.
A very current and relevant plot, really pushing the boundaries with the questions it throws up. Told from the perspective of the alleged victim, the accused and the jury, none of the perspectives are reliable. The accused and the victim tell their story in different ways. Sometimes the differences are subtle but those differences have a huge impact on how the story can form in your mind.
From chapter to chapter the evidence and accounts change your mind and it was so hard to know what I actually thought and the more I heard the statements the more unable to make a decision I became. Having chapters from the jury members added to the intensity as their decisions and discussions were so varied and conflicting. It’s easy to see that despite best intentions, being objective is virtually impossible cases.
As the stories unraveled my opinions changed and despite the jurors being almost anonymous and their genders not disclosed, it was difficult not to be swayed by their reasoning and discussion.
A powerful novel that really challenges stereotypes and our abilities to be completely objective. Enthralling and thought provoking – it’s a must read.
