Thank You to Panther Publishing and J.S. Strange for an ARC copy of this novel to read and review with honesty.
A murdered artist. A threatening group. A brother with a secret.
Artist Xander Draper needs help. Members of The Dirty Dolly gang are threatening him, and PI Jordan Jenner is hired to find out who the members of this elusive group are.
But when Xander is killed, his body displayed as a final exhibit, Jordan realises the extent of the trouble Xander was in. Now, there are people following Jordan. They know his name, and they want revenge.
Time is running out to solve the murder of this famous artist, and find the members in the elusive Dolly gang. And with the return of Ashley Jenner, Jordan’s brother, Jordan begins to fear his brother may be responsible.
A classic murder mystery set in Cardiff, with a gay male lead. The second in the Jordan Jenner Mysteries series.
After thoroughly enjoying Jordan Jenner’s first outing, Murder on the Rocks, I couldn’t resist joining Panther’s tour for book number two – The Art of Murder.
When Jordan is hired by an artist Xander (who is scared for his life) to find out the identities of members of an illusive gang he quickly discovers there is more at stake than he first realised. Xander’s body is found displayed as an exhibit Jordan suddenly becomes a target himself. Parallel to this, his brother’s return and silence regarding the trouble he is in makes Jordan begin to suspect his brother is in too deep and in danger.
Once again Strange has written a fabulous cosy mystery with diverse characters and a fast paced plot. I must admit, as much as I loved book one, I felt the writing in book 2 has really matured and Strange seems to display more confidence. Murder on the Rocks was great but The Art of Murder is brilliant.
I love that we learn more about Jenner as a character in this novel and he seems to be a little less introvert than previously. There is now a stellar cast of supporting characters surrounding Jordan and for me personally I felt that he was learning to trust these and let them into his life a little more. By the end of this novel I became fully invested in him as a character.
The plot itself is reminiscent of a classic Who Dun It? We have a murder, a cast of characters and a whole bunch of clues and all we need to do is use them to eliminate the murderer and solve the mystery. It’s such a fun novel to ‘play’ along with.
Great for cosy mystery or classic who dun it fans and a series I am eagerly anticipating the return of.
