Summer Hastings hates Christmas. She loves sunshine, the beach and running her travel agency, sending people off to their dream destinations – even if she doesn’t get to see the world for herself. For Summer, Christmas is nothing but a reminder of all the things that have gone horribly wrong in her life, so when handsome Noel Pritchett moves his pop-up Christmas shop in the store next to hers, Summer is livid.
Noel loves Christmas…and he also has a sneaking suspicion that he might be falling in love with Summer, if only he could break through the armour she has surrounded herself with. Just why does Summer hate Christmas so much? And can Noel be the one to prove to her that life can be sweet all year round?
Well, the weather has gone all weird recently and we are in that limbo period where it is no longer warm and sunny for outdoor reading but not quite cold enough to be in the festive spirit. This book is the perfect bridge for that gap and brings summer and winter together.
Summer hates Christmas! When a pop-up Christmas shop opens up next door to her travel business she is frustrated and against it from the start, even if it is rented by Noel Pritchett (Aiden Turner Look – a – like).
From their very first encounter sparks fly between the two of them. Their conversations and exchanges move from pleasant and meaningful to plain rude, insulting and downright hilarious. I loved both characters from the beginning.
Summer initially appears as a prickly character but as more of her story is revealed through past and present events, it’s easy to understand why she is this way and my heart completely went out to her. The aptly names Noel is a really refreshing male romance protagonist. He has a sensitive and gentle side but on the whole is hilarious and I found myself chuckling out loud at some of his attempts to get Summer on side (or to get his payback).
As well as the romantic story line between the main characters, there are other sub-plots at work in the background really bringing this novel to life. Some are humourous and others are deeper and tackle some sensitive issues in a tactful manner.
This is such a heartwarming novel and I adored the whole cast of characters.
