Synopsis

Some secrets are best kept hidden… and some are just too magical not to share.
Teenagers, who unexpectedly acquire a vast collection of magical, mystical powers and abilities, find an ancient map. This map leads them on a quest for buried treasure to a mysterious island filled with hidden secrets, booby traps and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

What could possibly go wrong?

A lot!

My Thoughts

Fancy something a little different?  Maybe a throwback to stories of your youth or a book to share with your YA?  This is the book for you.  Complete nostalgia if you love films such as The Goonies and with a modern, magical and more grown up take on books such as The Famous Five etc.

The Misfit Tribe are a group of teens with a variety of personalities.  Along with their families they are off on a geocaching adventure which gives each family the chance to win a substantial sum of money.  Whilst following an old treasure map found by J.J and his brother, the group come across trinkets and all take one.  With suddenly acquired powers, the group find themselves in a race against time to stop a relentless villain.

Although for the slightly older age range (12+), this novel really brings something new to the table in the world of fantasy and adventure.  I think this would be a fabulous novel for a reader new to fantasy as the fantasy elements are subtle and easy to keep up with.  It would also suit a reluctant reader as for me, it reads more like a film than a novel and it is so easy to become engrossed and immersed in the story.

The characters are relateable for most young adults and the plot is pacy and captures the imagination.  Despite being a fantasy adventure, most of the story is realistic and easy to imagine.  Packed solid with action, thrills, suspense and drama, I guarantee this novel will entertain you.

A great little read for readers young and old.
