Jasper – Space Dog is the first in a series of hilarious stories about the ambitions of Charlie Tanner and his dog, Jasper.Released to mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, the story cleverly weaves facts about the space mission with hilarious ideas about space. In their quest, Jasper and Charlie consult space experts to see if Jasper might make history too.Charlie Tanner and is Dog Jasper are keen to find out as much as they can about space and the first moon landing. Is the moon made of cheese? Can space aliens deliver pizzas? Did the astronauts see any flying saucers or flying dog bowls? Mixing facts about the moon landings with hilarious ideas about space, ‘Jasper: Space Dog’ is the first in a series of funny stories about a loveable hound with BIG ideas!
This is such a brilliant and informative book. It all those important questions that children ask about space in one place.Through his humorous letters to Isabella at Space exploration UK, Charlie discovers all that Jasper needs to learn to be a space dog. This is a great book to share with your child and in my case, in the classroom too. It incorporates letter writing with a real purpose, dispels some simple myths about the moon and gives real facts about the first moon landing. It is written in a charming but informative way that younger children will enjoy, learn from and fully engage with and older children will have fun reading by themselves. Some of Charlie’s ideas and thoughts are great stimuli for discussions and experiments, such as looking into space food etc. and children will love exploring these ideas. The book is illustrated with cute space related doodles across the pages as well as cartoon-like drawings of the characters and the story adding the charm of this book. Such a clever way of mixing fact with fiction.HIghly recommended for sharing with younger children and for older, primary children to read alone.
